Today, it is with much elation that Melbourne’s favourite psych-rock sisters unleash new single ‘Changes’ upon the world, from their highly anticipated sophomore album ‘As Above, So Below’ due for release July 15.
The track began as a warped riff, travelling over two time signatures. And, as with all good things, simplicity is key;‘Changes’ fits a standard 4/4 while merging in to a weird and wonderful psychedelic spin. Complimented by the eccentric touch of producer John Lee (Phaedra Studios) who brought a heavy drum beat to the chorus that emanates a kraut rock feel. This enchanted union gives ‘Changes’ an irrefutable drive and energy, making it a diamond amongst the mystique of their forthcoming album.
Stonefield’s new LP ‘As Above, So Below’ is a journey of changes for the band. As lead vocalist Amy Findlay describes… “This song encapsulates that journey for us; that undeniable understanding that sometimes a change is needed from the very beginning, being able to embrace that change and everything it brings.”
The fierce four-piece spent the last three years relentlessly touring, both locally and internationally, gracing stages at some of the world’s most prestigious music gatherings, including Glastonbury, The Great Escape and a recent electrical stint at SXSW 2016.
Stonefield smashed back on to the scene in April with the first single from their upcoming LP ‘Stranger’; a heavy heartbeat, exploding into pulsating guitar riffs and melodic commandments. The sisterhood were also honoured with ‘Best Rock Work of the Year,’ at the 2015 APRA Awards for their single ‘Love You Deserve’ taken from their debut self-titled album, and capped off a dream-like 2015 opening for Fleetwood Mac.
The dream is not slowing down anytime soon.
